Don't Bug Us! We're Buzzy Learning New Signs!

Kayla Flaherty was born and raised in Blacksburg, Virginia.  She currently resides in Stafford, Virginia with her husband, Peter; 5 year old daughter, Kerrigan;1 year old son, Jameson; and an 8 year old labradoodle, Cassie.  Kayla taught as a Deaf educator in Fairfax County Public Schools for 9 years before becoming a stay at home mom.  Kayla uses both spoken English and American Sign Language to communicate with her family and friends.  She is a bilateral cochlear implant user.  Kayla enjoys hands-on activities such as crafting, baking and photography. She also enjoys developing sensory based activities for children, and creating accessible materials for teaching that include pictures and sign language. She also enjoys signing songs, and continues to teach sign language to her children at home to help with communicating.  Kayla's favorite bugs are butterflies, dragonflies and ladybugs.
